Kalamazoo MI – The Senior Companion Program (SCP) offers low-income men and women aged 60 and older the opportunity to provide individualized care and assistance to other adults, especially seniors living at home or in institutions. Senior companions serve 20 hours per week and in return receive a modest tax-free stipend to cover the cost of volunteering, accident and liability insurance, assistance with transportation, an annual physical examination, training, and a meal on service days. Potential volunteers must have income at or below the established guidelines to be eligible for the SCP. Contact the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging at (517) 373-8230 for additional information.
