Kalamazoo Marathon (at the Borgess Run for the Health of it)
It’s Kalamazoo’s FIRST marathon – with competitors from 46 states. Yes, you can participate – or just cheer on the hearty souls as they zoom by.

Coldbrook County Park (May 29)
Talk about endurance! The Seahorse Challenge is an Olympic distance triathlon, duathlon and sprint triathlon with 600 of the best athletes in Michigan competing in swimming, biking and running events.
The Drowsy Chaperone
Kalamazoo Civic Auditorium (May 6-22)
The Drowsy Chaperone is an homage to American musicals of the Jazz Age, examining the effect musicals have on the fans who adore them. A mousy, agoraphobic Broadway fanatic, seeking to cure his non-specific sadness, listens to a recording of a fictional 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone, and is literally transported into the musical.
Monty Python’s Spamalot
Miller Auditorium (May 10-11)
This outrageous musical is lovingly ripped off from the film classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail and tells the legendary tail of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
New Vic Theatre (May 6 – June 11)
Folk music fans unite! Enjoy this musical tribute to the Kingston Trio, featuring Ted Kistler, James Furney and Wes Garman.
The Music of John Williams and KSO Star Wars Spectacular
Miller Auditorium (May 7) and Chenery Auditorium (May 8)
Enjoy the magic of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (KSO) via two very special cosmic adventures. On May 7, KSO will carry you back through your favorite moments from Indiana Jones, Star Wars and more at Miller Auditorium. The following day, Chenery Auditorium will host a Family Discovery Series concert designed for children (ages 4-10), leading your entire family into a galaxy far, far away.
An Alternative Art Hop

Each month, Kalamazoo hosts an Art Hop – where you can hop from one featured gallery/business to another to celebrate amazing local artists. May’s “Alternative Hop” embraces wild and unusual art that is fun, funky and crazy. Expect street performances, body art and a lot of other unconventional displays.

It’s a party at the Art Institute! Music, mingling, art and fun! Galleries will be open with a special performance by musical guest Jerry Flowers.

This exhibit tells the incredible story of the first black combat aviators who served in the U.S. military during World War II through photographs, narratives, models, maps and graphics.
